Thank you. THE GRIND began in October 2013. We set out to give artists and writers a voice where they did not have one before. In the year and a half that has passed since we have released four issues, a printed booklet, put on charity fundraisers, evolved into a radio show, and hopefully helped some people along the way. I think we have. I hope we have. We have been lucky enough to publish some of the most talented people I've ever known and for that I will always feel privileged. I will never be able to thank enough the people who have helped THE GRIND become what it is today.
THE GRIND was born of desperation. Desperation to do something; to stave off the depression that comes with working in the service industry; desperate to feel like you're making a difference in a world that sometimes does not seem to reward endeavour. A lofty goal for such a small enterprise. However, time marches inexorably. It has become apparent that new opportunities are presenting themselves and they are crying out to be taken. It is to this end that we are announcing the end of the PDF publishing era of THE GRIND. After ISSUE V we will no longer be taking submissions for art and fiction for the intent of publishing them online. THE GRIND as a publication will no longer exist. However, THE GRIND as a brand, as an idea and an ethos, will stride forward into new territory. This is a necessary step in the evolution of THE GRIND and its goal of giving artists and writers a voice. We will continue as our weekly radio show on 98.8 Castle FM and as a brand new podcast and zine, details of which will be released shortly. We will also continue our events with [Untitled]. Our aim has always be to promote artists and writers in Scotland and that is exactly what we shall continue to do, we'll just be doing it more effectively. Submissions for ISSUE V will be open until the 12th of May. All submissions should be sent to [email protected] before that date. THE GRIND does not stop. Nor does it rest. THE GRIND is eternal.
As well as adding JANET PAISLEY to the lineup, we're also delighted to announce that tickets for NOMENCLATURE are ON SALE. They're extremely limited, so get yours now!
The lovely people at Scottish Books have said some incredibly kind things about The Grind and REMNANTS. You can read these kind words here.
We will also be making some rather big announcements this week. Things that have been a long time coming, mostly. There will also be more events coming very soon; watch this space. Fuck The Grind. |
